As you reach Nainital, at 6,500 feet, the pines give way to magnificent deodars and oaks. Children look forward to collecting pine cones, while elders recall other hills they've visited in previous periods. House of Jim CorbettNainital, a British favourite, was Jim Corbett's home for many years, and he speaks highly about it in his novels. The neighbouring forest, which was once thick with bears and deer, has thinned down as Nainital has grown. There has been a rise in the number of tourists and pollutants. Even yet, the green lake may still be used to trace down the place's spirit. People smiling, boating and paddling in the lake, several games of football and cricket going on on ‘the flats,' and shoppers ogling items on the Mall; there is festivity in the air during the season. Naini lake, things to see and doThe town of Nainital is built around the iconic lake. According to legend, Shiva grieved his wife Parvati's death, performed the tandava with her body. All of creation was on the verge of extinction until Vishnu intervened, destroying her body and scattering it over the land, stopping Shiva's cosmic dance of destruction. Her left eye fell here, becoming one of the 64 Hindu mythical seats of power, and Naini lake sprung forth. The actual location is supposed to be the Naina Devi Temple at the north end of the lake. The Tibetan MarketThe flats were constructed after a massive landslide in 1880 washed away a section of the ridge above the Mall, dumping a massive amount of material around the lake. As a result, a large-scale afforestation effort was launched. These days, at one end of the Tibetan Market, people are selling goods imported from Bangkok and other places. There is a bandstand, a fountain, and a skating rink here, as well as a lot of activity. The Boat House ClubA must-see is the boathouse club, which dates from the mid-nineteenth century. Head to the tables facing the lake at the wooden-floored bar. The windows let in a lot of light, and it's a beautiful sight. The magnificent town lights and stars conduct a giddying dance on the waters of the lake in the nights, giving you a sense of a genteel past gone by. Temporary membership is Rs 415 per couple per day and includes access to the bar and billiards room. The most preferred method of sailing is via yacht on the lake. A small boat (Rs 250) may be rented at the Boat Club on the Flats. Snow ViewSnow View (7,448ft) atop Sher-Ka-Danda Hill is accessible by aerial ropeway and is a popular tourist destination. Photo opportunities abound in the cable vehicle. Now that horses don't go up anymore, it's the best method to get here. There's a bumper car ride and a spectacular view of the Himalayas, in addition to the typical array of eateries. China peakThe snow-capped Himalayas may be seen from China Peak (8,579ft). The peak's second name comes from a sadhu named Cheena who, according to legend, formerly resided here. At Snow View, you may either trek or rent a pony. Governor’s houseThe summer house of the governor of the united provinces was the Raj Bhavan, which boasted a 220-acre park brimming with deodar trees. It is presently the official home of the Governor of Uttarakhand. The two-story structure (with 113 rooms) has a façade that resembles the form of the British crown. The lobby's enormous fireplace, the mailbox near to the governor's writing table, and the "glass houses'' conservatories are all worth seeing. There is also a public 18-hole golf course on the property. Tiffin Top or Dorothy’s SeatThe Tiffin Top Peak (7,520 feet) above Ayarpatta Hill provides a spectacular view of the Himalayas, which may be accessed through a winding, rough route. It contains a stone picnic perch erected by the husband and admirers of Dorothy Kelley, an English artist who died in an aircraft disaster (thus the alternative name for Tiffin Top). From Bara Pathar to Tiffin Top horse riding is available and it is one of the best places to see in Nainital when your trip is short. Gurney HouseThis is the old home of Jim Corbett, a hunter writer and naturalist who lived on Ayarpatta Hill. The mansion that bears Corbett's father's name is now a magnificent Corbett memorabilia museum. Gurney House is a private residence, and access is granted at the owner's discretion. WalksThe McDonald's Circular Road is a nice trail (turn right just before Tiffin top). If you keep somewhat quiet, you'll have a decent chance of finding the shy barking deer. You may see Khurpatal (which is formed like a cow's hoof) from Tiffin Top to Lansdowne (6,949ft) on the hike from Tiffin Top to Lansdowne. On these high, desolate hillsides, ghurals (wild goats) flourish. Another wonderful trek is from Lansdowne to the stables, which ends at Bara Pathar, where you may lease horses or climb cliffs in season. Nainital ZooRare species such as the snow leopard, Siberian tiger, Himalayan black bear, and steppe eagle may be found in the well-kept National High Altitude Animals Zoo. Although the ascent from the packing is a little steep, the effort is definitely worth it. Eco Cave GardensThe new Eco Park, with its cave gardens, is an excellent site to expose children, or anybody, to a natural ecosphere. The park is well-kept and features a melodic fountain that only runs in May and June if there is no water shortage. There are six caves here, however, it is not recommended for claustrophobics or little children. During the rainy season, excursions are no longer available. Shopping in NainitalThe Mall, now known as Govind Ballabh Pant Marg, is a popular tourist destination where visitors may stroll, dine, buy, and play video games or billiards. At The Flats, the Tibetan Market sells a variety of woollens, candles, and other goods. Hand Woven stoles and shawls may be found in the Panchachuli Store, while rhododendron, squash, fresh fruit jams, chutneys, and other items can be found at the Fruitage outlet. The Bara Bazar, which contains typical stores, caters more to the requirements of the residents. Check out the candles at the Gupta Departmental Store, which range from green apple-scented candles to pups with looks ranging from stupid to sad. Hotels in Nainital: Where to stay ?Nainital has a broad range of hotel accommodations, from simple to opulent, from homey to high-end luxury. In the peak season, always make a reservation in advance.
