Family Vacation Tips for Traveling with Kids |
Posted: September 16, 2022 |
Ask any parent organizing a trip for the family what they'd like most to experience when traveling with kids. But, of course, at the core, everyone wants to plan an unforgettable family trip packed with memories that last for a lifetime. Here are some of my top tips for traveling with kids during your next family vacation: 1. Plan ahead Visualize every step of the process -- from packing your bags to leaving your home for the airport until you return. Then, begin planning your week before your departure and create an inventory of the items you'll require. Keep adding items to your list each day as you remember small things. You're more likely to enjoy your vacation with the kids if you've thought about it before departure. 2. Connect directly with your hotel in Advance Always call ahead and ask the hotel if they have something special for children. Many upscale hotels go above and beyond to cater to families. Be sure to inform hotels about any important milestone in your families, such as an anniversary or birthday. Don't be afraid to respectfully request an upgrade. 3. Surprises are overrated when it comes to traveling with kids Rehearse ahead of time with your kids. Make sure they know one week in advance the exact plan. It's exciting to surprise kids. However, I've also heard plenty of stories where it's resulted in the kids being surprised, which makes the experience less enjoyable than the parents had hoped. 4. Be prepared when flying with a baby. Come prepared with plenty of diapers, clothing, snacks, bottles and any emergency medications to be ready for unexpected delays on your flight. 5. Bring along your favorite baby gear When flying with a baby, you can check all the baby's gear at no cost -- stroller or car seat - it will not count against your checked baggage with United, American and most major airlines. 6. Don't over-schedule Sightseeing trips are excellent, and it's a good idea to keep an agenda of things you'd like to do, but only choose a couple of things you'd like to complete each day and keep your day open to view through your kids' eyes. 7. Remember you are all on vacation Splurge for help to ensure that you have a relaxing family trip that doesn't seem like work. Find a porter to take you to the airport and assist you with carrying your luggage. When traveling with kids, rent cars that suit your family so you can spread out and play with kids. Choose a large family room where you can relax and play with your kids. Perhaps you can book a babysitter or a hotel with a great children's club so you can enjoy your time. 8. Relax and be flexible There is always a chance for something to happen during the family holiday. Be positive, calm and flexible when plans change, or the weather isn't cooperating. Sometimes the most memorable decisions of your trip are made spontaneously when other plans fail. Traveling with kids? Want to know about hotels with indoor pools in any particular state?
