How to store a surfboardStoring a surfboard sounds like a simple endeavor, but there is certainly more to it than one may anticipate. In this article we unpack (excuse the pun) what’s involved in storing a surfboard correctly. Preparing your surfboard for storageThis is a very important part of the whole process. Get this wrong and your surfboard could end up being damaged, or worse broken. Whether you’re storing your board in your basement, attic or a storage unit, be sure to follow these steps. Detach all removable partsTake off all the removable parts from your surfboard. Remove leash, leash rope, fins, and pack these separately. Use a good quality surf bagPack your board into a bag that offers maximum protection. The bag should be padded and not too loose. Ideally it should have extra padding in the nose and tail. Wrap the board up with bubble wrap on the nose and tail for extra protection as these are the areas most likely to get damaged in transit. In transit, boxes are often dropped and slammed down on their ends. If you’re packing multiple surfboards be sure to separate them with several layers of bubble wrap. You don’t the PU of the boards rubbing against each other Add a layer of cardboardWrap the surfboard bag with a layer of cardboard. You can do this with flat cardboard or you could get two big boxes, and attach them together to form a larger box enough for a surfboard. If there are large empty spaces, you can add cushioning materials like bubble wrap in here to keep the surfboard firmly in place. This will make a huge difference to the surfboard’s protection while it is being transported. Tape up all the edgesFinally, make sure that all of the edges are taped up securely. Reinforce any seams or edges, and make sure that your board is sealed in its entirety. Now it should be well-protected and ready to store
