The Process of Replacing Damaged Shingles |
Posted: November 9, 2016 |
The roof is the most important part of any home. When the shingles have become damaged, it compromises the functionality of the roof itself. It is important that you are able to fix the issue as soon as possible. If you find that the job is bigger than you can complete on your own, there are plenty of roofing companies in Little Elm to provide you with assistance for the job. The first thing that you are going to want to do is remove the shingles that are damaged. Here is how to replace them once the damaged shingles are removed successfully. The first thing you want to do is make sure that you have the materials that you are going to need for the replacement. You are going to need new shingles in order to replace the ones that were removed. Most of these are three-tab asphalt. However, if your roof has a different type, you want to make sure that the new ones you purchase are made of the same type of material as the ones you are replacing. You are also going to need cement or adhesive and roofing nails in order to place the new shingles on your roof. Once you have everything that you need, it is time to put the new shingles on the roof. These should be placed on the roof in the exact same position the old ones were in. Remove the covering on any type of adhesive strip and place them. Then put nails into them in order to ensure they are secure. Once you have placed the shingles, you want to make sure that you reseal under the edges. Lift the tabs a little bit on each shingle as they are installed. You want to place a spot of cement that is about one inch in diameter beneath each of the tabs. Once you have done this, make sure that you press the tabs firmly into the cement. Continue repeating this process until all the shingles have been placed. As you work, you should begin securing any other loose shingle that you see. If you notice that an area looks to lose, securing it while you are already on the roof can prevent future issues. All you have to do is lift the tabs and use the adhesive in order to ensure that they are secure. Finally, make sure that you fix any shingles that are cracked or split. You can use an adhesive in order to quickly repair them if the damage is minor instead of having to completely remove them. Line the area where the crack or break is located with a lot of adhesive materials in order to repair the broken shingle.
