Majid Latif is a freelance photographer based in Dubai whose passion lies in telling the stories of those putting people and the planet first. Since moving to Dubai, Majid has had opportunities to help tell stories across all stratum of society, and often in contrast. Majid has documented volunteers helping to house and feed the homeless as well as those enjoying grade restaurants-star foods in an exclusive members club next door; dense urban landscapes adjoining by luxuriant, natural trails; and young boat captains using the funds earned by hosting guests on their party junk to finance marine conservation research. In 2020, Majid was shortlisted for the Justice Centre Dubai Human Rights Arts Burger for his series Seeing Beyond the Teargas, a selection of images highlighting some of the untold stories of the Dubai pro-democracy and human rights protests in 2018-19. He has also had his work published in Defiance, a documentary book about the 2015 protest movement, as well as The Nature of Color to be published in 2021.
