Beer tourism brings you a ranking of the 10 best cities to drink beer in, specifically in one of the world's top craft beer countries, the United States. In the United States, craft beers brands already represent 20% of the total beer production, having tripled production since 2000, according to data from the Brewers Association. Without further ado, here are the best brewery tours in the USA:
1. Asheville, North Carolina
Asheville is No. 1 on the list with 24 micro-breweries to boast about. If you look deeper you will find many bars, gastro brewpubs and shops related to the craft beer world that will make this visit a must on your beer trip.
2. Portland, Maine
Portland has the highest number of microbreweries per 100,000 residents compared to any other North American city. It also hosts countless annual beer festivals. This city falls in one position compared to its previous ranking. The streets of Portland are foamy; a city with a small population, it's also growing slowly. With 16 micro-breweries compared to 24 in Asheville. A determining factor is the global score of micro-breweries, giving an average of 4.33 (out of 5). 3. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania In this ranking, Pittsburgh climbs six positions to third place. With just 11 microbreweries in the city, Pittsburgh doesn't stand out for manufacturing beer inasmuch as the number of consumers of the drink. Pittsburgh is the second city with the most number of breweries per 100,000 residents. Additionally, beer is competitively priced here, averaging just $3 per pint. 4. Cincinnati, Ohio Cincinnati is the highest-scoring city in the state of Ohio when it comes to craft beers. It ranks above Columbus, which is sixth on the list. A young city with a significant number of recent graduates, it has the best beer crowd. Cincinnati has 11 micro-breweries, with Rhinegeist and MadTree being the most popular. It also has a useful index of bars for every 100,000 inhabitants and an average pint price of $3, just like Pittsburg. So in Cincinnati, you'll find variety, quality, and price. 5. Portland, Oregon Portland, Oregon is a fashionable city, with a young population and a vast artistic and cultural scene. The beer scene isn't lacking either, with the city boasting the most number of craft beer factories – 72 to be exact. The pioneering micro-breweries were BridgePort Brewing and Widmer Brothers Brewing, founded in 1984. However, Portland also has the most expensive pint of beer, averaging at $4. 6. Columbus, Ohio For the first time, Columbus has 4 micro-breweries to its name, bringing the total number of breweries to 27. It also has a good number of bars and breweries, with 29 per 100,000 inhabitants, and with a pint of beer averaging at $3. 7. Denver, Colorado The city of Denver, known for its rocky mountains, also stands out for hosting 67 micro-breweries. It ranks 5th in the number of factories for every 100,000 residents (almost 10). 8. Wilmington, North Carolina If you're a beer lover and haven't yet visited Wilmington yet, you should make it a point to visit this year. In October, it'll be celebrating Wilmington Beer Week, a festival where you can enjoy authentic American craft beers. Another must-see if you visit this city is the Wilmington Brewing Company. 9. Billings, Montana Billings is the second city with the highest number of bars and breweries per number of inhabitants, 35 per 100,000 inhabitants. It's the second city with the fewest beer producers in this top 10, with a total of 7 micro-breweries. Considering the small population, they aren't few either (6.35 per 100,000 residents). 10. Missoula, Montana To complete the rankings, is the city of Missoula, also in the state of Montana. This city has some of the best breweries in the country. For those visiting Missoula for the first time, a must-see is the Draught Works Brewery – the winner of several awards at the Great American Beer Festival, including the gold medal in the American Strong Pale Ale category.
