Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television show produced by the BBC since 1963. The series follows the adventures of a Time Lord also called"The Doctor", an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-traveling spaceship knows as the TARDIS. On the exterior, the TARDIS appears as a blue British police box. In the series, the Doctor combats different villains, works to save civilizations and helps those in need. Who is Dr. Who?The character portrayed in the series is simply known as "The Doctor" and will never have a real name other than "The Doctor" and whatever aliases he assumes. This is how the name Dr. Who was given. Beginning with William Hartnell, thirteen actors have played The Doctor since the series began. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the regeneration concept. This means the Time Lord or The Doctor "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly injured and can not heal normally. What Does The Dr. Do?Generally, each show has a plot where The Doctor and a human companion fly around the universe and have some serious science fiction adventures. The series was originally intended to be educational and for family viewing and would teach viewers about history, outer space, and science. The Doctor and his companion work against a villain in most episodes and help others and save civilization. Most Time Lords obey a strict policy of non-interference in the events of the universe but the Doctor doesn't pay attention and intervenes in history to fight the evil and aid anyone he can. What is The TARDIS?The Time Lord or doctor uses a type of time machine called a TARDIS to travel in time. TARDIS stands for Time and relative dimension in space. The Doctor's TARDIS is very old and sometimes doesn't work exactly as it should. The TARDIS is also much bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. The interior comprises the main control room and other rooms and corridors and exists in its own dimension. The exterior is very small and is supposed to be a chameleon, meaning it will blend in with its surroundings. However, in 1963 the chameleon circuit broke and the TARDIS got stuck in the shape of a blue police box. Does Dr. Who have Powers?Dr. Who has a few natural abilities. These include psychic powers, mind-reading, hypnotic abilities and even talking to animals and babies. Some lesser-known powers include growing new limbs, growing a new body from a limb, and surviving in freezing temperatures, and who knew the doctor was a speed reader? The purpose of Dr. Who? One may never know but the purpose of the show is mere entertainment, and it does deliver on that. With hundreds of episodes of Doctor Who to choose from it can be intimidating to get started with the series. The good thing is most episodes are self-contained so it is easy to just jump right in and start watching. What are you waiting for?
