Moving house is very exciting with most of us looking forward to a new beginning and the changes we will make to our new home, but it is also said to be one of the most stressful life events. Our top moving tips will help to get organised and make the whole process much less stressful. Planning and organising are key, as soon as you know you would like to move decide what you are taking with you and what you no longer need. Having a good clear out and tidy up before you have to pack makes things much simpler. When you have your moving date start packing things that you wont need between now and the removal. Small – medium sized boxes are best especially for heavy things. Label each box and have an inventory of each box, so if you do need to find something you can. It’s often easier to break this task down and do little and often so packing doesn’t see quite so overwhelming! A few weeks before the move create a checklist of companies and people you need to notify of the move, this list should also contain contact numbers and space for any meter readings. Keep the list with you on moving day to record your meter readings and make the first few days in your new home much easier. It will also provide a handy check to ensure you don’t forget to notify a supplier, vets or for example change the address on your driving licence or insurance. Create a shortlist of professional removal companies you might use. Look at their independent reviews, the services they offer and get in touch with them for quotes. The cheapest quote may not always be the best, find out what insurance they offer in the event anything goes wrong, how they protect your items in transit and if there are any key waiting charges. If you have young children, a few weeks before the move create a moving day box, this can be a surprise for them or you could involve them in the choosing things to include in the box. Travel games, colouring, books and puzzles are a great way of keeping children entertained. On moving day there a few things to keep to hand, basic tools, toilet rolls, light bulbs, tape, scissors, pen and paper, tape measure and things for the all important tea and coffee!
