Prevention of Drinking and Driving Accidents with Alternatives |

We have all been warned about the dangers of drinking and driving. The only other action that can be just as deadly is texting and driving. Alcohol impairs your ability to function normally. It slows your response time and impairs judgment. It is why you should not operate a motor vehicle while under the influence. Yes, there are other reasons. One reason, in particular, is it's against the law. The main reason not to drive under the influence is the possibility of injuring an innocent person. One wrong decision can completely change a person's life. Whether it is the driver that is intoxicated or the person who gets hit by that driver. The good news is drunk driving has decreased in the last decade, but it's not enough. Accidents caused by an impaired driver make up almost a third of the traffic accidents and fatalities in the United States. That is a staggering number. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility has been leading the way when it comes to preventing these tragedies from happening. They work closely with all facets that relate to alcohol and come up with preventative measures to ensure things like driving and driving don't happen. The Foundation has funding in place for research to identify how drunk driving can be stopped. One of the ways drivers can prevent themselves from driving under the influence is to know before they drink. A better understanding of what is at risk can significantly reduce the chances of someone getting behind the wheel when they shouldn't. Instead of risking hitting someone else’s or losing your license, there are alternatives. For instance, with the emergent of Uber and other taxi services, you know longer have to find a way to get home. If you've consumed alcohol having a designated driver is usually the first approach. So if you go out drinking for the evening, having a person who stays sober is one of the best options. They will be able to make judgment calls that an intoxicated person just can't do. While there are many things to consider when you go out for a night on the town, thinking about the consequences of drinking and driving should be at the forefront. The laws are strict than ever, and also the knowledge is far significant. With so much awareness of what can happen if you drink and drive, the hope one day is no one will do it.
