You can and should begin using networking in your business if it's a good fit, and it isn't for all business models. If you start thinking about networking, you can easily see how they can pop-up anywhere. But, as you know you can make mistakes with the simplest things, so there are times when you should be in learning mode. What you're about to discover are three evergreen tips for keeping the networking mistakes to an absolute minimum. When you are networking, do not forget why you are there. If you are conducting business with a client, then concentrate on this specific client. You should concentrate on business matters only. It doesn't matter where the meeting is taking place. Liking this person is not something that you should be concerned about. Remember to conduct business in a professional manner, especially if this is a first time encounter. Don't cut the meeting short in order to meet with someone else, unless that person might serve a business business partner purpose for your present meeting contact. Get around this by not going to any of your regular socializing places. Mining people you don't know for the people they know is a mistake because it's one thing to be nice to a receptionist when you do cold calling. What you can accomplish by doing this is making a bad name for yourself, and then people will remember that about you. Word does get around about stupid things like this, and your name will be at the top of the list and you can kiss your networking goodbye. Anything remotely resembling this tactic should be immediately dismissed because it's so bad.
Don't be a "drive by" networker which is most commonly experienced at networking events. Someone walks up, introduces themselves and asks your name, then they ask to trade business cards. You don't know who you're meeting, so then give everybody some time and learn something about them. You can hopefully see the logic and common sense this makes, so then just do it and get something done. So you probably won't be Freedom Factory director getting anything personal because it's about business. You want to make sure you can actually help each other.
