Let me share with you my story from my most recent Arctic cruise. It sounded fantastic, National Geographic trip through the ice, and back with polar bears and other animals. There would be all kinds of ice, and snow all around. Man-made machinery was set to take on the elements, and cut through the northern desert that was frozen. It sounded fantastic, like an epic fight with the weather and north.
I was told to take along all the tech I could squeeze into my luggage. I did pack my laptop, but I also brought the screen of a large size to make the space more spacious. I was informed that electricity wasn't a problem. I wasn't sure what was ahead for me. I had no idea that two days into my 14-day trip I would lose my Internet connection and be gone for 10 days. It was a complete shock to me when it happened. Every trip, however difficult or remote, should be an abrupt disconnect from the technology world but not in the 21st century. While I've got unfinished business that I need to attend to during the coming week, but I also did not plan for interruptions.
It doesn't matter if people have to disconnect from the internet. Internet is all around and if your home network is having issues There are a lot of nearby McDonalds which offer free WiFi access. It is also possible to bring your laptop and relax at Starbucks throughout the day. But, no restaurant, cafe or cafe will aid you up north. They're a long way from the closest shack, with the electricity produced by an ineffective generator. There's not a free Internet nearby.. There are two options to get out from these circumstances. You could be offline or have the internet via satellite.
I cannot afford a sat phone, it is too expensive, especially to use it for Internet access. However, I'll prepare an avid video and audio collection before venturing out into the unknown without Internet. The last time I had two songs, but they were both snarkily downloaded in the past the only thing I was able to listen to was three jazzy songs and one famous track I didn't even know the name. This is it. 4 tunes for 2 weeks of nothingness.. If I had known that this would happen, I would have prepared. I would have packed my computer with television shows, movies, and lots of music videos. I could have spent hours listening to my favourite podcasts. It's simple to download podcasts, convert them to mp3 and save them to my computer. Then I can just lay down in my room and enjoy whatever music I would like to hear at home but don't have time for. This was my"golden hour. Two weeks full of gold. yt to mp3 It was 2 weeks filled with staring at ceilings and running from passengers to be there every when they made a sound.
The trip was empty , literally as well as figuratively. Never have I ever been so bored. I knew the problem would eventually arise from the thick ice, so the boat needed to change course and be returned to civilization. While this was not unexpected, there were many alternatives. Many hours of idle time could be spent listening to podcasts and DIY videos for fixing issues at home, or simply listening music. Next time, I'll convert YouTube videos from mp4 to mp3 format on the laptop. Bring these along to listen to your favourite songs from your laptop. Music never makes you feel sad. It is possible to download Netflix and Hulu movies to your phone to stream offline. They can also be carried on the long journey across the arctic. Don't let boredom drag you down. Best of luck!
