It now couldn’t be easier to do so many great things with the unwanted clothes that are filling up your wardrobe and jamming your drawers or the laptop which has been sitting in a cupboard for years. Read on and find out how the small gesture of donating your unwanted clothes or unwanted electronics can make such a huge impact on your community and to the world. It is simple. Book in a collection with us, leave your bags or electronics on your doorstep and wait for them to be collected. What does Little Lives UK collect directly from your doorstep? When we collect from you, we can collect all sorts of unwanted items. Below is our full list of what we will collect from you for free in London: – Adult’s and children’s clothes Where do your donations go? When we collect from you we ensure that your donations are used in the correct ways which will benefit the most amount of people as possible. A majority of the donations we receive are given to our three charity shops in Raynes Park Tooting and Fulham, where the fantastic team we have sort through them and sell them in the shops. All proceeds from sales in our shops are then used within the charity to support the campaigns we run. All of your generous donations are directly benefitting the lives of children around the UK. Some of the textiles are given to local hospitals to be reused and used in hospitals as cleaning rags and other useful things. Also, your clothes are given to children who are in need of new clothes if their family are not in a position to buy them for them. We receive applications from other organisations to provide clothing for those in need. Your clothes go directly from your drawer to a child in need.
Your unwanted electronics are either sold by ourselves to raise money for our campaigns or are given to children without the correct technology to complete their education through our Technology Campaign. We receive applications from hundreds of organisations who are looking to provide devices for children across the UK ad so far we have given away nearly 700 devices to children. How do we use the money we have raised from your donations? Every penny we make from selling your clothes and electronics is used within the charity for the running of our campaigns. We have two campaigns that benefit from the sales of unwanted clothes and electronics. Our Children’s Community Support campaign offers funding of up to £2,200 to organisations that directly benefit the lives of children in the UK. We provide funding for projects that deal with social exclusion, help children with disabilities, help children who are living in disadvantaged backgrounds access free sports sessions and organisations that provide activities that enable children to live a happy and healthy childhood.
So that is where we spend the money which has been made from your generous donations so lastly, I will mention how your donations can save the world. The impact your donations have on the environment It may seem strong to say you are saving the world by donating clothes and electronics, but you are. Every donation you give helps to reduce waste and promotes a sustainable and reusable lifestyle. In the UK alone, each year we waste millions of pounds worth of clothing and textiles that could have been easily reused instead of thrown in a landfill. Our fast, cheap fashion is contributing to the millions of tonnes of carbon emissions that are being pumped into the atmosphere each year. If we start to reuse clothing and stop wasting it, less will have to be made, meaning that we can all help to slow down the effects of global warming on our planet. According to Stacker.com, it takes 713 gallons of water to grow the cotton to make one T-shirt. That is a staggering amount! Now imagine if you throw away ten T-shirts a year because you don’t wear them anymore, how much waste is that? Let alone, the jeans that no longer fit, the shoes that have got a bit grubby or the coats that are not in fashion anymore. When you donate your unwanted clothes, they can be reused by others when bought from charity shops and loved again. Less waste is produced and you are helping a good cause, not just for Little lives UK and the children in the UK, but also for the whole planet.
