This is not my own thoughts on the topic.
Signs and symtoms; in cerabral palsy is delay in reaching key goals, the primary effects of cerbral palsy impairment, first appear in early in life usally in infantcy or early childhood infants with cerebral palsy are usally slow to reach develpmental milestones such as rolling over, sitting, crawling, and walking of mucle tones gross and fine motor fountions balnce control reflexes and and posture oral disfuntons. such as swollowing and feeding difficulties, impairments. Cerbral palsy may involve muscle stiffness[spasticity]. Poor muscle tone, uncontrolled movements, and problems with posture, balance cordination, walking, speech swollowing and many other funtions. mental retardation, seizures, breathing problems, learning disablties, bladder and bowel, skeletal deformities eating difficulties dental and digestive problems, hearing and vision problems are often linked to cerbral palsy. Speach and langauge; disabilities may result from hearing loss, cerbral palsy, learning disabilies, and or physical condtions there may be a range of difficulties from problems articultion or voice strength to complete absence of voice inculded are difficulties in projections, fluency problems, such as stutting and stammering, and in articulting particular words or terms. Deaf/hard of hearing; students who are deaf or hard of hearing requires different accommmodations depending on different factors, inculding the degreee of hearing loss, the age of onset, type of laguage or cummunications they use, they may a variety of communication methods, including lip reading, cued speach, sign english and/or Amercican sign language. Brain injury; may occur in many ways, tramatic brian injury typically results from accidents; however insufficient oxgen, stokes, poisoning or infections may also brain injury. Brain injury is one the fastest types of disabiltises, especially in the age range fifteen to twenty-eight years. The charactistics of disabilities are highly individaul; the same diagnosis can affect students very diffrently. Depending on the area(s) of the affected by the injury, a student may demonstrate difficulties with these symtoms of a brain injry. Organizing thoughts, cause - effect relationships and problem solving. processing infomation and word retreval. generalizing and intergrating skills. social interaction. short-term memory. balance or coordination. communicatoin and speech. Phycial diasablities, Are highly indivual; the same diagnisis can affect students very differently. speech and lanuage disabilities; Give student opportunity -but do not compel speaking in class. Ask student for a cue they can use if they wish to speak. permit student time to speak without unsolicited aid in filling in the gaps their speech; Do not be reluctant to ask student to repeat a statement Address students naturally. do not assume that they cannot hear or comprenhend. Patience is the most effective strategy in teaching thoughts , cause-effect relationships and problem solving. processing information and word retreval generalizing and integrating skills. social interactions short- term memory balance or coordination communiction and speech. psychiatric diasabliies; refer to a wide range of behavioral and/or psychological problems characterized by anxiety. mood swings, depression, and/or compromized assesment reality. these behaviors persist over time; they are not in response to a particular event. although many indivdauls with psychiatric disabilities are stabilized using medications and/or psychotherapy, their behavior and affects may still cycle. Considerations and Instructional strategies; Students with psychaitric disabilities may not be comfortable disclosing specfics of their disabilty. If a student does disclose, be willing to discuss how the disabilty effects him or her academically and what accommodaions would be helpful. with treatments and support, many students with psychaitric disabilities are to manage their mential health and benefit from college classes. if students seems to need counseling disabilty-related issues, encourage them to discuss their problems with their a disa bity coordinator. sometimes students may need to check their preceptions of a situation or infomation you have presented in class to be sure they are on the track seqential memory tasks such as spelling, math, and step by step instuctions may be more easily understood by breaking up the tasks into similar ones. Drowsiness, fatigue, memory loss, decreased response time may result from precription medications. Attention Deficit disorder (ADD)/ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD); ADD and ADHD are neurological conditions affecting both learning and behavior. They result from chronic disturbances in the areas of the brain that regulate attention, impulse control, and the excecutive function which control cogitive task, motor activity, and social interactions. Hyperactivity may or may not present. treatable, but not curable, add and or adhd affects three to six percent of the population. Characteristics (may include); Inablity to stay on task. Easily distracted, Poor management skills. Difficulty in preparing class asignments keep appointments and attending class on time. Reading comprension difficulties, Difficulty with math problems requiring changes in action, operation and order.Inabilty to listen selectively during lectures. Resulting in problems with note taking lack of oranization in work, Especially written work and essay questions difficulty following directions, listening and concentrating. Blurting out answers poor handwriting. Since these students often also have learning disabilties, effective accommodations may inculde those also used with students with learning disabilties. Effective instructional strategies inculde providing opportunities for students to learn using visual, auditory and hand-on approaches. Overview; cerabral palsy is an umbrella is a term for a group of disorders affecting body movements, balance, and posture loosely translated, cerabral palsy means '' Brain paralysis'' Cerabral palsy is caused by abnormal developement or damageinone or more parts of the brain that control muscle tone and activity (movement) resulting impairments first appear early in life, usually in infancy or early childhood. infants with cerabral palsy are usually slow to reach developmental goals or milestones such as rolling over, siting, crawling and walking. common to all individauals with cerabral palsy is difficulty controling and coordinating muscles. This makes even very simple movements difficult. Guidelines for teaching students wuth disabilties. (general strategies for optimizing learning), Many teaching strategies that assist students with disabilities are also known to benefit without disabilities, instructions provided in an array of approaches will reach more students than instuctions using one method DS offers the following suggestions to assist instuctors in meetting the growing diversity of student in need in the classroom, particularly those with disabilities. DS welcomes any additional strategies instuctors have found helpful. General strategies for teaching and presenting; Begin class with a review of the prevoius lecture and an overview of topics to be covered that day. At the conclusion of the lecture, summarize key points. Highlight major concepts and terminology both orally and visually . Be alert for opportunities to provide information in more than one senscory mode Emphasize main ideas and key concepts during lectures and highlight them on the blackboard or overhead. Speak directly to students; use gestures and natural expressions to convey further meaning. Dininish or eliminate auditory and visual distractions. Preasent new or technical vocabulary or on the blackboard or overhead, or use a handout. Use visual aids as diagrams, charts, and graphs, and colour to enhance the message. Give assignments both orally and written form. be available clarification. Provide adequate oppunitties for participation, questions and /or discussion. Provide timelines for long-range asignments. Use sequential steps for long-range assignments, for example lenghly paper. (1) select a topic, (2) write an outline, (3) submit a rough daft, (4)make necessary corrections approval. (5) turn in a final daft, Give feedback on early daft papers so there is adquate time for clarification, rewrites refinements. Provide study questions and review sessions to aid in mastering material and prepairing for exams. Give sample questions, explain what consitutes a good answer and why. To test material rather than test-taking savvy. Phrase test items cleary, Be concise and avoid negatives. Facilate the fomation of study groups for students who wish participate. Encouge students to seek assistance during your office hours and to use campus support service. AUTISM; Autism is a disorder of neural developement characterized by impaired social interaction and verbal and non-verbal communication, and by restricted reptitive or steroetyped behavior. diagnostic criteria require that symptoms become apparent before a child is three years old. Autism affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cell and their synapses connect and organize. it is unknown how this occurrs. it is one of three reconized disorders in the autism spectrum(ASDs). the other two being Asperger syndrome, which lacks delay in cognitive delopement and laugage, and pervasive delelopement disorder not otherwise specified (commonly abberviated on PDD-NOS) which is the diagnosis when the full set of criteria for autism or Asperger symdrome are not met. Parents usually notice signs in the first two years of their child's life. The signs usually develop grandually , but autistic children first begin to develop normally and then regress. Early behavioral., cognitive, or speech interventions can help autistic children gain safe-care, social, and commications skolls. not many children with autism live indenpendently after reaching adulthood though some become sucessful . an autistic culture has deleloped, with some invididaulsa cure and others believing autism should be accepted as a difference and not treated as a disorder. Autism is a highly variable neurodevelopmental disorder that first appears during infantcy or childhood and generally follows a steady course without remission. overt syptoms gradually begin after the age of six months, become established by the age of two or three and tend to continue through adulthood , although often in more muted form. It is disingished not by a single symptom, but by a charactistic traid of symptoms; impaiarments in social interactions, impairments in communication; and restricted interests and repetive behavior. Other aspects such as atypical eating are also common but are essential for diagnosis. Autism's invidual symtoms occour in the general populations and appear not to be highiy related and it lacks a clear line seperating patholgically severe from commo traits. There is no specific drug to treat autism. special education and training curriculum system can improve prognosis with the increased study of autism we have gradually realized that autism diffuse developmental disorder of the central nervous system which falls under certain genetic factors, and is caused by stimulation of various kinds of environmental factors. All kinds of genetic factors and environmental factors interfere with the normal development of the nervous system. the patient may have less normally functional nerve cell in the brain than othr children of the same age. There has been significant stagnation in growth in many encephalic regions after many years of study. the wu stem cell medical center (WSCMC) found that restarting the nervous system delevopment of the brian is important to treat autism The WSCMC used neural stem cell implants, In adddition to unique stem cell regulation techinques for the body, in order to enable the implanted neural stem cell to reach the target organs that restart the development of specific nerve cell in the brain. This can significantly improve the symptoms of autism, and imprve the environmental communication skills and self-care abilty required in daily life. So these are the signs and symptoms of being disabled if your baby seems abnormal / disabled, it may be one of the above. your doctor may also help in these problems. There are groups in which to help u deal with them too.
