Winter Wedding Tips for Blushing Brides |

Your wedding day is supposed to be the most romantic, perfect day ever, but if you are getting married in the wintertime, there are a number of potential pitfalls to watch out for. Thankfully most problems can be avoided with a bit of forward planning – and here’s how. Winter Warm OutfitsThe biggest problem to contend with when planning a winter wedding is the weather. Unless you live near the equator, it is likely to be cold in the winter, so all outfits will need to take this into account. After all, it won’t be much of a fun day if the bride, groom, and bridesmaids end up with hypothermia. To keep the cold out, look for a long sleeved dress for the bride, perhaps with a faux fur wrap or cape. Guys have fewer options, but they can wear more layers, so warm, thick fabrics are a good choice. Footwear needs to be chosen with the weather in mind. Strappy sandals are perfect for a beach wedding, but less suitable for a winter wedding when snow is likely to be on the ground. Instead of sandals or heels, look at warm winter boots and team these with thick tights to keep the cold out. The same rules apply to bridesmaid dresses. It’s all very well buying cute mint bridesmaid dresses, but if everyone is freezing cold, they won’t thank you. So, shop for dresses in thick velvet fabric to keep out the chill. Weather WarningsAlways check the weather forecast a few days in advance of your big day to avoid any nasty surprises. If heavy snow is forecast or temperatures are expected to drop well below freezing, have contingency plans in case transport is affected or guests can’t make the wedding at all. Warm and Hearty Food and DrinkWhen choosing your wedding menu, take the weather into account. A cold buffet will be perfect for a summer wedding, but when the weather is cold, nothing beats warm food and drink. You have lots of options here. Warming curries or a sit down hot meal would work well. Don’t forget to provide hot drinks, too – a nice warming glass of hot spiced wine will go down a treat at a Christmas wedding. Wedding PhotographyOf course you want a pictorial record of your big day, but don’t forget that the weather might not be good enough to have any outdoor photographs. But even if the weather is OK, light fades quickly on a winter’s day, so depending on the timing of your ceremony, you might not have the chance to take photos outside. Just in case, scout out potential backdrops at your wedding venue so you and the photographer are prepared. Lastly, don’t forget that candlelight is wonderfully romantic and works well at a winter wedding. Decorate your venue to suit the theme and don’t forget to hand out winter themed party favors: cashmere wraps, miniature bottles of spiced rum, or even Christmas candy if you are getting married on a tight budget.
