The use of natural stone allows you to create refined and respectable interiors. Undoubtedly, the material has a number of advantages, among which are durability, strength, moisture and fire resistance. Among its disadvantages on the other hand are its high cost, heavy weight and the complicated installation. Features
Even the most wealthy and famous inhabitants of Ancient Rome resorted to finishing the internal parts of their houses and villas with stone. Due to the high cost of the material and the laboriousness of its processing and installation, such cladding was available only to really wealthy people - representatives of the nobility and aristocracy. Over time, the popularity of the stone grew. And even with the advent of many other less expensive and easier to install materials, natural stone for interior decoration remained in demand to this day. This popularity is due to the excellent performance characteristics and its attractive, luxury appearance. Today, just like thousands of years ago, natural stone in the decoration demonstrates the wealth and the social status of the owner of a house or other premises. For interior decoration, usually a strong and durable stone is selected, resistant to abrasion and mechanical stress. Moisture-resistant stones are preferred. Due to the natural composition of the material it is resistant to fire (it is non-combustible), and weather resistant. Naturally, before use, the stones are processed and cut. Types For interior decoration are used different types of natural stone:
Marble Granite Granite is perhaps the strongest and most durable of all natural stones. Due to its moisture resistance and resistance to abrasion, granite has a long service life. This noble material has several color shades that "play" when the sun's rays hit the surface. But it is really, really heavy. This allows the use of granite only on solid foundations with strongest adhesives. Travertine Dolomite This term refers to a sedimentary carbonate rock that contains a high percentage of the mineral dolomite. The brown, white or yellowish hue of dolomite is due to the presence in its composition of clay particles and iron hydroxides. A distinctive feature of dolomite is the shiny surface, which can vary from relatively matte to mother-of-pearl. Dolomite also has no radiation background, moreover, it has healing properties. It has a positive effect on the central nervous system, relieves nervous tension, relieves anxiety and insomnia. The beneficial effect of the material, as well as its resistance to high temperatures, allows the use of dolomite in the decoration of baths and saunas. Slate According to professionals, slate is one of the best materials for interior decoration. In addition to the absence of radiation and an attractive design, the mineral has good thermal conductivity, and can also act as a soundproofing material. The primary colors of slate are gray, graphite, black, greenish and burgundy. Its surface is dotted with veins that form different designs. Depending on the processing of the stone, the surface can be smooth or have a pleasant roughness, even velvety. Slate has a distinctive feature - it periodically peels off. After the descent of the particles, the material acquires its former appearance and at the same time becomes more durable. Onyx Onyx is a kind of semi-precious stone with high light transmission properties. This causes the presence of a radiant sheen of the surface of the material and its elegant appearance. As the onyx is an expensive pleasure, it is usually used in combination with other stones. This stone is thought to have the ability to purify the air in the room. Among its many other advantages - ease and variety of processing options, durability, and original eye-catching appearance. Characteristics As already mentioned, natural stone is one of the heaviest materials for interior decoration. This provides, on the one hand, its increased strength and durability, on the other hand, it complicates the installation. The base surfaces must be reliable and withstand significant loads. Natural stone does not absorb water, and is resistant to aggressive liquids (with the exception of travertine). It improves the heat and sound insulation of the rooms and unlike some modern options, finishing with natural material allows you to maintain optimal humidity in the room while reducing heat loss. Natural stone is resistant to high and low temperatures and UV rays. Natural stone always looks aristocratic, elegant, respectable, and allows you to create an eye-catching interior. Given all this, the price of natural stone cannot be low. There are both quite expensive - granite, marble, basalt - and more affordable types, such as shell rock, slate. How to choose from such diversity and what are the best options according to experts, you will learn in the next part of the article.
