How to Create Custom Minifigures |
Posted: June 1, 2023 |
Custom Minifigures are minifigures that have been modified in some way to improve their appearance. This can be anything from adding a new headpiece to completely repainting a figure. There are also a range of different printing options that can be used to alter the look of a figure. When creating a custom minifigure it is important to remember that the small scale and simple features of the LEGO figure are a virtue, not a constraint. A skilled painter can transform an ordinary LEGO figure into an exquisite masterpiece with a minimum of effort. This is often done by using a toothpick to apply tiny drops of acrylic paint, although some customizers choose to use a toothbrush for better control. Myblockfigures One of the main issues facing a minifigure MOCer is the balance between simplicity and complexity. Minifigure lines are simple and modelled on what can easily be fashioned from wood, so an overly complicated design will clash with the style. The colour palette is similarly restrictive; official LEGO minifigures have no more than five core colours excluding skin, hair and black outlines/folds (with some exceptions such as the green Batman). Using too many colours can overwhelm the character and make them less believable. Another issue is how much to change an existing minifigure. While it is tempting to create an accurate representation of a character, this can quickly become boring for both the creator and the viewer. A successful custom figure is usually a character with some degree of personality, which can be achieved by injecting some originality into the creation.
