Motorhomes hold their value well, and you can find a high-quality used motorhome for a decent price that will give you many years of comfortable motoring and travelling. It must be noted that buying a used motorhome is a little more difficult than purchasing a new model. There are some questions you need to ask and things you need to check. Here is a handy checklist for making sure your used motorhome purchase doesn’t come with any surprises. Carefully check your prospective Motorhome Have you seen a great-value second-hand motorhome advertised online? Are you thinking of buying from a private owner rather than a dealer? Then you need to check the vehicle more carefully to make sure you are not buying a stolen van or that the vehicle is of a poor standard. You should always take a motorhome for a test drive. Then, get your torch out and take a very close look at the interior and the exterior of the motorhome. Bring your camera so you can have a few shots to remind yourself at home what you saw. Check the Motorhome exterior Look at the van from each side and end, to see if there is any visible damage. Look at the windows to see if there are any scratches or if there are windows that may need to be replaced. Check that there are no gaps between the windows and the main body of the van. And see that the paintwork matches across the entire van, including the wings and the doors. The tyre walls should not be split and the treads should be evenly worn. Check the engine compartment up close for oil leaks and examine the exhaust for any rust or evidence of corrosion. Check the Motorhome interior If you smell damp or mustiness, think again about your purchase. Mould and mildew can be very difficult to get rid of. See if there are any signs of sponginess on the walls or the ceiling. Look under the seats for any signs of damp, however small. Check the standard of all the appliances and ask for all the instruction manuals. Examine the shower and the bathroom for any defects and then lie down and check the beds. They should be as comfortable as possible! Check if it’s stolen This is the most important check to carry out. You don’t want to end up with a criminal record because you inadvertently bought a stolen vehicle. Run your own data check for certainty and ask for the logbook and look for the Vehicle Identification Number. If you are not sure how to look at a motorhome and be certain it is worth the price, think about buying a motorhome from a professional dealership. They have plenty of luxury motorhomes for sale so you can choose your ideal model from a range of specifications. You can also be sure you won’t be receiving stolen goods or ending up with a vehicle that breaks down as soon as you drive it away.
