Everyone needs a power alternative, specially in a country like India, where we frequently observe electricity cuts. There are only two alternatives that we can select- one is generator and other is Inverter. However, not everyone can afford generators, they are noisy, bulky and require more space to keep. So, we left with the latter one, that is small in size, cheaper than generator and able to withstand your electricity load easily. Perhaps, owning an inverter is not a big deal right now but, selecting the right battery for your inverter does. If you do not pick the right inverter battery, you will ultimately degrade the life of your battery as well as inverter. There should be a perfect match and for that you need to know about the types of inverter batteries available in the market. It will help you in knowing about batteries and their behaviour. Primarily, there are three types of batteries available in the market- Lead Acid Battery, Tubular Battery and Maintenance Free Battery.
-
Lead Acid Battery – These are the most common inverter batteries. They are rechargeable in nature and produce large amount of current. They are light in weight and most economical. They usually last for 3-4 years but, require regular maintenance. The electrolyte level check and topping up has to be done regularly. Since these batteries release harmful gases during charging and discharging hence, they must be installed at a well ventilated place in home.
-
Tubular Batteries – Tubular batteries are very strong and broadly utilized for inverters. It needs low maintenance and able to provide service for a period of 7+ years. These are the most popular and efficient inverter batteries. They have a complex design, great performance and require little space as compared to the Lead Acid batteries. If budget is not heavy on your pocket then this is the best battery for your device so far.
-
Maintenance-Free Batteries – These are simply the sealed lead acid batteries that do not require electrolyte level check and topping up. These are safer as compared to lead acid batteries and that's why costlier. In spite of the fact that they have shorter life, these are ideal for inverters.
You have to be very careful while choosing the right battery for your inverter. People buy a branded inverter but to save some money they often consider to buy a local battery that not only degrades the performance of your inverter but also risks your life. So its better to consult with an expert before buying an inverter battery for yourself.
